How to Get Sand Out of a Swimsuit

The beach is fun. The waves, the sun, wind, and sand are undeniably soothing. The sand rarely bothers me when I am out there. It is, however, a pain when I start heading off the beach and don’t want all that sand in my bag, car or the house.

Getting sand off your bikini or swimwear, in general, is a trick every beach lover needs. While keeping off the sand will save you the pain, you will be the most boring person on the beach if you keep to yourself. You can enjoy your time out there and still live a sand-free life.

Shake Off the Sand as Soon as Possible

Cleaning up your suit as soon as you leave the beach will stop the sand from setting and caking in. Getting rid of most of the sand is as easy as shaking off your swimsuit. Turn it inside out and shake it again.

Be sure to do this outdoors as the shaking gets rid of most of the sand. You can easily create a nasty mess if you do it indoors.

Rinse it thoroughly under Cold Running Water

The next step is to rinse it carefully under running water for at least 10 minutes. Don’t use any detergent in the processor work on more than one suit at a go. The running water should wash away the remaining sand or bring it to the surface.

Roll the suit to squeeze off excess water and lay it flat to dry. You don’t have to lay it down under the sun. This could make colored swimsuits fade off faster.

Shake it Off Again After It Dries

Once the swimsuit dries, give it a couple of flicks to get rid of any remaining sand. Ensure that your shakes are vigorous and that you turn it over to shake both sides.

If these steps don’t get rid of all the sand, you can use a blow dryer at cool settings to blow off all the remaining sand.

Flimsy two-piece swimsuits are easy to shake off compared to bigger one piece or pushup swimsuits with padding. If you will be playing in the sand, consider wearing something that will be easier to clean later on or just be prepared to shake for longer before getting rid of all the sand.
